PRIVACY POLICY — WEBSCAPE, CHRISTCHURCH

Privacy Policy

This policy covers the information we hold about you, why we hold it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Last updated 25 August 2026

1Introduction

Webscape ("we", "us", "our") is a web design and development studio based in Christchurch, New Zealand. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and safeguard your information when you visit our website or engage our services.

We comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and the Information Privacy Principles set out in that Act.

2Information we collect

We collect personal information you give us directly, usually when you send an enquiry, request a quote, or engage us for a project. That typically means:

  • Your name and email address
  • Your phone number and business name, if you provide them
  • Anything else you choose to write in your message

We also collect some information automatically when you visit the site, including your IP address, browser and operating system, the page that referred you, and the pages you view. This comes from cookies and similar technologies.

We do not ask for and do not want financial details, identity documents, or passwords. Please do not send them to us by email.

3How we use your information

We use what we collect to:

  • Reply to your enquiry and carry out work you have engaged us for
  • Keep you updated on a project in progress
  • Understand how the site is used, so we can improve it
  • Send marketing emails, but only if you have opted in
  • Meet our legal and tax obligations

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

4Cookies and analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to measure traffic, and Microsoft Clarity to understand how pages are used. Clarity records anonymised session activity such as scrolling, clicks and mouse movement. Neither tool is used to identify you personally, and Clarity masks text input by default.

We also set a cookie recording how you arrived at the site, such as the campaign or advertisement you clicked and the page you landed on. This helps us see which marketing works. It is kept for up to 90 days, and if you submit a form it is stored alongside your enquiry.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Doing so may affect parts of the site.

5Third-party services

We rely on a small number of providers to run the site and our business:

  • Google Analytics and Google Ads, for measurement and advertising
  • Microsoft Clarity, for anonymised usage analytics
  • Resend, which delivers enquiry emails from our contact form
  • Cloudflare, which sits in front of the site for security and performance
  • Our hosting provider, which stores the site and its data

Each of these handles data under its own terms. If you reach us through an advertisement, we may report the resulting enquiry back to the advertising platform to measure how the campaign performed.

6Storage and security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from unauthorised access, use or disclosure, including encrypted connections, access controls, and keeping our systems patched.

Some of our providers store data on servers outside New Zealand. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure the information is protected by comparable safeguards, as required by the Privacy Act 2020.

No system is perfectly secure. If we ever become aware of a privacy breach that poses a risk of serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as the Act requires.

7How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, or as long as the law requires. Business and tax records are kept for seven years. Enquiries that do not become projects are cleared out periodically. After that, information is deleted or de-identified.

8Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy
  • Ask us to correct anything that is wrong
  • Ask us to delete information, where we are not required to keep it
  • Withdraw consent to marketing at any time

Email hello@webscape.co.nz and we will respond within 20 working days, which is the timeframe the Act sets.

9Marketing emails

We only send marketing emails to people who have opted in. Every one has an unsubscribe link, and you can also just reply and ask us to stop. Project and account emails are not marketing, and continue while we are working together.

10Children

Our services are not aimed at anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If we find out we have, we will delete it.

11Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version always lives on this page, and the date at the top tells you when it last changed.

12Contact us
